Justine and Olympia - 1867
Summary
What happened on that terrible night of February 14, 1867?
Here are two merchant ships, lost, wandering a short distance from
the Hérault coast.
One is Greek, the Olympia, and has just left the port of Sète. The other is
French, Justine, and returns from Sicily. In the heart of one of the worst
storms of the 19th century in the dreaded Gulf of Lion, they advance
towards each other.
And suddenly…50 years later, Laurence Serra, maritime archaeologist, is
authorized by the Ministry of Culture to lead, with his team, the excavation
of a mysterious wooden wreck which has never been identified.
The hold of this ship is filled with precious merchandise, vital to the French
economy at the time... Code name of the operation? “Aresquiers 12”.
This mission then leads to a captivating scientific investigation carried out
like a police investigation.
Under water and sand, in library archives, with ultra-sophisticated offshore
radars, in the heart of laboratories, there will be surprises, twists and turns,
joys, frustrations and wonders for more than five years!
This book passionately recreates this adventure and allows us to better
understand the hard work of archaeologists.
